Abstract
When imperforate hymen is diagnosed during adolescence, the patient often presents abdominal pain and/or pelvic mass besides apparent primary amenorrhea. Among others, it is described the clinical case of a twelve-year old girl who after six months of tracking in different consultations because of a lumbar pain was diagnosed imperforate hymen by sonogram and nuclear magnetic resonance
(NMR). The images revealed hematometrocolpos and bilateral hematosalpinx. We have examined the caseload of our hospital in whose records there are 7 documented cases of imperforate hymen diagnosed in teenagers over the last 24 years. In the remaining 6 medical records no reference is done to lumbar pain. The principal diagnosis was reached during the process of studying intense or recurrent abdominal pain and/or the palpation of abdominal mass. Given the situation of a teenager with abdominal/lumbar pain and apparent primary amenorrhea, it is necessary to think of the possibility of imperforate hymen.
