Abstract
Abstract Infants of diabetic mother have a four-fold increased risk of congenital malformations. We report a newborn girl daughter of mother with type 1 diabetes that shows malformations like a Defect of Developing VACTERL (association of Vertebral, Anal, Cardiac, Tracheo-Esophageal, Renal and Limbs anomalies; and other minor defects associated). Poorly controlled diabetes and frequent maternal hypoglycemia during pregnancy might be principal teratogenic factor. Limb and caudal vertebral anomalies that newborn child presents suggest similar malformations like Caudal Regression Syndrome. Therefore, hypothesis of a common pathogenesis might be considered.
