Abstract
Scientific progress is grounded in access to current knowledge, upon which new research is designed and conducted, and whose results are subsequently returned to the scientific community. If the results of a study are not published, this chain is broken, and the community loses a contribution to knowledge. Likewise, when a researcher lacks the ability to access a scientific publication, valuable information for their work may be lost. In both cases, this information deficit promotes unnecessary duplication of research efforts and undermines the efficiency of the scientific method.
