Abstract

This brief article show the main aspects that must be considered when analyzing the diet of the pregnant woman in order to secure an optimum nutritional contribution and to favor an appropiate fetal programming.

Firstly, the characteristics of normal growth appear. Secondly, the changes that happen during the course of the normal pregnancy. Thirdly, we see an update of the nutritional needs of the mother. Next, the consequences of a deficient nutrition become apparent. Later, the theory of "programming" is reviewed. And finally, the role of the health professional is analysed to secure suitable growth.
