Abstract
A retrospective study in 218 children diagnosed of Giardia lamblia parasitosis is made. The patient age ranged between 11 months and 13 years, beeing the peak incidence between 2 and 4 years (38.5 %). Different epide miologic factors, as social level, season and source, were evaluated. The frequency of gastrointestinal symptoms were abdominal pain 44.9 %; anorexia 25 %; diarrhea 16.5 %; vomiting 13.3 % and constipation 9-1 %. Fifteen extradigestive parameters were also investigated. Recurrent respiratory infections (25 %), psicological disturbs (25 %) and allergic symptoms (11 %) stood out. Blood complementary analysis were determined in 142 cases. The result was normal in the 69.7 % of them. The most striking abnormalities were hypochromic anemia (21 %), raised ESR (23 %) and eosi nophilia (19 %).
