Abstract

We go through 113 cases of meningococcal infection looked after at the Hospital «Valle del Nalón» (Asturias) since December 1978 till March 1984. Eight children died (7,07 %). The most frecuent meningococci has been the B serogroup. In 63,7 % of the cases the infection affected children over two years of age. The 20 % of the patients showed complications; the most serious were: shock, with a mortality rate of 72,7 %, and CID, with 42,1 %.
