Withdrawal syndrome in newborns of methadone treated mothers

Abstract

We report here the more relevant data from a seires of 11 heroin addicted mothers newborns. The mothers had been under methadone treatment all through the pregnancy and the babies were delivered in our Service from december 1984 to august 1986. We have studied the pathology associated to the pregnancy and its influence on the newborn, the patters of the delivery, the somatometry of the newborn, the appearance of the methadone withdrawal syndrome and the response to phenobarbital treatment. A close follow up of these patiens is recomended.
