Abstract

The activity of serum adenosine deaminase is evaluated in one group of children with viral acute hepatitis, in newborns with physiological jaundice, in cord blood of normal children and the mean value was compared to normal controls. We found a mean of 64.7 ± 15.8 U/L in acute hepatitis and 20.7 ± 4.6 U/l in the normal group. The values from physiological jaundice and normal cord blood were similar to normal controls. The adenosine deaminase has an important value for the diagnosis of acute hepatitis and its follow -up.
