Abstract
The secular trend in human growth and maturation began to be observed by the XIX century in developed countries. Twelve thousand children from Galicia, between 6 and 18 year old were studied in 1980 and the results compared to data obtained by Suárez and Peña in 1955. The stature of 18 year old boys increased 5.4 cm. and the weight 5.800 gr. The menarche age decreased 2 years and 6 months from 1900 to 1985. The authors wonder whether the secular trend may be considered an index of good health and whether the acceleration could be a danger in later life.
