Abstract

Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) was studied in one group of normal children 1-14 years old (36,9 ± 7.7 nmol/min/ml); in cord blood (37.1 ± 7,9 nmol/min/ml) and in newborns with physiologic jaundice (35.0 ± 6,8 nmol/min/ml). Very similar levels were found in the first and second groups. but they were lower in the third. These values were higher than in normal adults (37.7 ± 5.6 nmol/min/ml) (p<0.05), but there was no difference with the group of newborns with physiologic jaundice. The values af ACE were similar in cord blood and in peripheral blood 24-48 hours after delivery.
