Importance of visual acuity assessment in preschool children

Abstract

Visual acuity assessment was made in 59 children 4 years old by the squares optotype. A visual deficiency was found in 16.9% of children, which was unknown in 9,6%. Six children (10%) did not colaborate, consequently we got a false positive result. The specifity and sensibility of this method was 100%. The vision screening by optotype in preschool children is recommended.
