Abstract
The variations of plasmatic IgE leve!s were studied in 20 patients previously diagnosed of rhinoconjunctivitis due to seasonal pollinosis during 1989. A group of 9 patients was instructed to filI up a diary of symptoms from April to July. These patients were then divided in two subgroups according they were steroids treated or nonsteroids treated; and also they were treated with immunotherapy, or not. It was found that living in countryside was a factor that increased the IgE level, maybe due to a greater contact with allergens. Nevertheless, the immunotherapy did not increase the IgE, but retarded the start and the end of symptoms. The steroid treated patients had a shorter period with symptoms, but they find a high variability, changing from low to high score in very few days. On the contrary, the non-steroid treated group had a higher score, but also a more stable clinical situation.
