Abstract
The clinical significance of the protozoan Blastocystis hominis in human enteric disease has been the purpose of considerable debate. We present our experience in 9 patients with this parasite, and a review of the literature on this subjeci. Only in two patients (22.2 %) it note a possible etiopathogenic role for Blastocystis hominis, but it has been a casual finding in the rest. This event probably indicate the prevalence of asymptomatic carriers among the population.
