The patient, a thirteen year old boy, had suffered of repeated episodes of headache, compatible with common migraine. His EEG had been always normal. There was a positive familiy history of migraine. At the age of eleven, along an eleven day period, he had two attacks of alternating hemiplegic migraine. Both episodes lasted less than 48 hours, and presented with fever, abnormalities of the fundi, EEG changes, and persistent lymphomonocytic pleocytosis of he CSF. Although all the symptoms and signs subsided, pleocytosis continued to be present for more than 60 days.
