Abstract

The alcohol fetal syndrome (AFS) is due to teratogenic effects of alcohol in mothers consuming this drug during the pregnancy. The incidence, that could be higher that published, is about 1-2/1.000 live newborns, in base of calculating 400.000 alcoholic wifes in Spain during their fertile age. The diagnosis is only easy whether there is an important intake of alcohol and wether the child have a typical fenotype with retard growth, neurological abnormalities, microcephalia and facies stigma. They may show cardiopathy, generally septal defects. The prognosis of the cardiopathy worse by the addition of the fas. We report and comment 4 cases of AFS.
