Abstract
Acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy is a benign variant of leukocytoclastic vasculitis that affects children younger than 2 years. It is characterized by sudden appearance of purpuric lesions that become edematous and develop a targetlike morphology. The face and distal portion of the extremities are favored sites. The prognosis for complete recovery is usually excelent. We describe two infants (7 and 6 months old) with acute hemorrhagic edema and compare the clinical features of this disorder with Schonlein-Henoch purpura.
