Abstract
Visceral leishmaniosis (Kala-azar) is a zoonosis produced by different species of Leishmania donovani. Its clinical features include fever, limphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, anemia with leucopenia, weight loss and progressive weakness. It is transmittted to man by a vector (Phlebotomus) from a reservoir (dog). It is relatively frecuent in our country and distributed worldwide, but to date no case of the disease has been diagnosed in our region. We report the first case of demonstrated visceral leishmaniosis diagnosed in Asturias.
