Abstract

The clinical and epidemiologogical data from bacterial meningitis of children older than 1 month of age, admitted in our hospital during the last 7 years, are analised. A decrease of meningococcal meningitis and an increase of meningitis by Hemophilus influenzae was observed along this period of time. The prevalency of bacterial meningitis by identified germ was 51.2%, increasing the percentage when only the children younger than 3 years of age were analysed (73.3%). Male patients predominated in all groups of meningitis and the presence of petechia was mainly related to meningococcal meningitis.
