Abstract

Clinical manifestations of urinary tract infection in children are very variable, often presenting as fever without source. Diagnosis is not always easy since interpretation of urine cultures may be difficult. Renal cortical scintigraphy with 99mTc DMSA has proved useful in the diagnosis and follow-up of urinary tract infection in chilhood. We report three children in whom, without demostration of a significant number of bacteria in the urine, the DMSA scan led to the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis.
