Abstract
Abstract Diseases within the thoracic cavity in childhood differs from those of adults in the important role played by congenital malformations. Pediatric surgery has improved conventional surgical techniques to deal with them. Thoracoscopy has emerged as a valuable tool to minimize harm to our little patients. We will briefly describe the thoracic pathology in children from the surgical point of view, starting with thoracic wall, malformations and obstructions of the airways, disease of the lung and pleura and finishing with mediastinal lesions. To be out of scope, we will omit diseases concerning the intrathoracic alimantary tract, heart and great vessels and diaphragmatic defects.
