Abstract
Abstract Opercular syndrome is a disorder of the voluntary control of facial, tongue, pharynx and masticatory muscles, produced by a bilateral lesion in anterior opercular cortex. Although this condition has been described chiefly in adults, associated with lesions of vascular cause, it can be also found, with a more varied etiology, in children: meningoencephalitis, perinatal diseases, head trauma, and cortical dysplasia. We report two patient cases in which language disturbance was an outstanding manifestation; diagnosis was confirmed by radiological examination. Thus, the importance to carry out radiological studies in patients with language problems must be emphasised.
