Abstract
Abstract Objective: To describe the clinical and radiographic differential findings between primary pulmonary tuberculosis versus nontuberculous pneumonitis in children under 18 years. Patients and methods: We have performed a retrospective case-control study by chart review of all patients 0 to 18 years old with primary pulmonary tuberculosis (cases) and a randomized selection of patients 0 to 18 yeas old with nontuberculous pneumonitis (controls). We have collected epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data. Chest radiographs were reviewed by two groups of radiologists, who were blind to the clinical and epidemiological data, on the basis of the following patterns: 1. Parenchymal consolidation; 2. Atelectasis; 3. Mediastinal lymphadenopathy; 4. Pleural effusion; 5. Miliary pattern; and 6. Complications.
