Abstract
Abstract The natural pyrethrins and synthetic pyrethroids are insecticides found in several commercial products aimed at the eradication of insects in pubic shops and businesses and in homes. Although they are not considered to be toxic, exposure to these products may cause skin, respiratory, gastrointestinal and rarely, neurological disorders in humans. The information regarding the effects of these substances in children is very limited. The case of a five month old boy with seizures is described. In this case, exposure to an insecticide and complementary studies have made it possible to establish the diagnosis of intoxication due to pyrethrins as the most likely cause of the clinical picture. Its interest is found in the rare clinical presentation and low frequency with which this type of intoxications is diagnosed. The clinical forms of intoxication due to pyrethrins and pyrethroids and their treatment are also reported, emphasizing the difficulty of the diagnosis.
